On the plus side of working this weekend, I’ve got PLENTY of time to get crafty with this months door decs?

(As the resident Art student, I had to out-craft another CA, who made minions)

No one seems to have a sewing machine these days, so guess who is sewing this baby by hand?Me!Meaning, that all of these neat little, straight lines will be stitched painstakingly over the next week, in preparation for Halloween. Wish me luck!

Late Night Craft Project #294: The beginning. This over-sized polyester jacket that I’ve been harboring years after being Jack Sparrow for Halloween. Over the next week it is going to gain a new life as a bolero and a reversible Elizabethan corset for my female pirate costume (because, let’s get real here, what else is this coat good for?). I’ve cut the pattern, bought the rim and new buttons, and was all excited to get home when I realized I didn’t have a sewing machine. Optimistic, I thought that maybe I could have swung it, you know, I mean…I’m a pretty decent hand sewer. But when I came home from the craft store without any boning, I had to look up an alternative method. Hemp cord boning. And this method, while more comfortable, is also three times the work because you need to sew channels for each and every cord, all the way around the corset.
Yeah, not doing that by hand.
So right now, I’ve hit a wall. I’m hemming the bottom of the bolero, but it’s late, and raiding the craft store today wore me out (Really, I raided it. Also fell in love with the barista, Ryan, who makes the best chai tea lattes I have ever had).
